Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that has the ability to spread rapidly to other organs and create the so called “metastasis”. Mesothelioma rarely develops into liver mesothelioma, less than 15 percent of cases develop such a condition. Asbestos fibers cause inflammation of the tissue they reach and eventually the development of tumors and cancer tissue. If it is malignant, the tissue has the ability to spread and develop metastasis.
Mesothelioma Liver Metastasis
Mesothelioma can develop a metastasis to the liver. This means that in a liver area one or more tumors are present. Cancer tissue spreads to the liver, at which point the condition can be called “liver cancer”. Liver damage will cause some related symptoms, mostly an acute pain in the area and loss of weight.
Liver Mesothelioma Treatment
Because liver mesothelioma is a secondary development of mesothelioma, doctors will discover the primary tumor first and treat it accordingly. Mesothelioma symptoms and diagnosis of the primary tumor have nothing to do with the liver, because it hasn't developed yet. When it develops doctors might be forced to remove the tumor surgically. Other treatments could be some of the following:
* Chemotherapy
* Surgery
* Radiation therapy
* Alternative methods (mostly used to relieve pain and relax the patient)
* Liver mesothelioma is a necessity (in order to protect the liver as much as possible)
